Feb/Mar - v Chelmsford C (H) (31/3/08)
Basildon B’s last match
against Chelmsford C was to decide the winner of division 4. Teams were
Chris Aukett, Colin Clements and Steve Appleby for Basildon and Richard
Hiskey,
Herbie Smith and Norman
Smith for Chelmsford. Basildon were trailing Chelmsford by 2 points in the
league, so had to win the match 6-3.
Steve and Colin seemed to
be in control of the 1st doubles but lost in 5 to Herbie and
Norman, so the pressure was on. Chris beat Richard in 5 having been 10-4
down in the final end but fought back to win 14-12. Steve had an easy win
over Herbie in 3.
Colin had a very close
match against Norman winning in 5 ends, Norman stated he had never played a
luckier player. The 2nd doubles went to Chelmsford comfortably in
4 ends so Basildon were only 3-2 up in legs won.
Chris beat Herbie easily
in 4 ends and Colin had a surprise win over Richard in a battle of the funny
bats a game that seemed to last for ever, Colin won in 4 the last end being
12-10. Steve with his side spin style easily beat Norman in 3. At this stage
Basildon had clinched the 6 wins they required to win Div 4.
The final doubles with
nothing at stake still went the distance with Chris and Colin beating
Richard and Herbie. Final match result 7-2 to Basildon.
The whole game was a very
friendly affair despite the importance of the result.
